Joomla or Drupal?

Update: In the end, as you may have guessed, I went with neither and installed WordPress.

Joomla and Drupal are widely regarded as the two most popular open source content management systems on the web. In fact,  my website, Andrewj.org, runs  Drupal. But recently, I’ve been having trouble deciding which one I  prefer.

While Drupal is easily extendable, I sometimes find it too customisable. The way some new Linux users feel when they first try it out. I like Joomla’s administration panel (the Khepri theme is brilliant), but is that a valid reason to want to switch to Joomla?

I also love the banner manager that comes installed with Joomla. I myself use a banner manager module for Drupal which inserts AdSense into my pages, but the Joomla banner manager would allow me to display static images in addition to the AdSense. A feature I’d like, as this would allow me to serve Amazon Associate banners as well as Google’s AdSense.

But a little voice at the back ofJoomla Logo my mind is screaming, “no! stick with Drupal!”. For one, Drupal seems like a pretty solid CMS to me. It hasn’t given me any trouble so far, it has just served up pages quickly and efficently. Obviously, as my site isn’t really very content-heavy right now, I’m not going to have a complete picture of how Joomla and Drupal cope with content, but Drupal seems like it’s just going to work.

What CMS would you recommend, and why? Do you think I should try WordPress as the CMS for my main site as well as Thought Jar? Is Joomla really that much better than Drupal? Leave your response in the comments.
